Mamelodi Sundowns have exercised their option to keep experienced defender Mosa Lebusa at the club for another season, securing his services until June 2026.
Lebusa, whose contract was set to expire at the end of June, has been rewarded for a strong finish to the 2024/25 campaign. The 32-year-old centre-back made 30 appearances across all competitions this season, even chipping in with a goal — underlining his enduring value to the squad.
Veteran Defender Still Going Strong
Despite facing competition from new signing Lucas Ribeiro, Lebusa managed to hold his place and prove his worth to head coach Miguel Cardoso. His left-footed versatility and leadership at the back were key reasons why Sundowns moved quickly to trigger the extension clause in his deal.
With nearly 200 appearances and nine goals for the club since joining, Lebusa remains a crucial figure in the squad — both on and off the pitch.
Sundowns Prioritise Experience Ahead of New Campaign
According to a report by iDiski Times, the club opted to activate the renewal option in Lebusa’s contract after evaluating his strong contributions during the closing stages of the season. His consistency, experience, and understanding of the club’s playing style made the decision an easy one for Sundowns’ technical team.
As the Brazilians gear up for another demanding season, including their campaign at the FIFA Club World Cup, having a reliable and seasoned campaigner like Lebusa could prove vital.
