After months of deliberation, Orlando Pirates have made a significant decision to reshape their future following the departure of Jose Riveiro. The Buccaneers are welcoming back a familiar face to lead the charge in the 2025 season.

Rulani Mokwena, 38, is set to take the helm after a less-than-stellar stint at Moroccan giants Wydad AC, where he managed 35 games with an average of 1.60 points per match in under a year. Mokwena is no stranger to Pirates fans, having served as assistant and caretaker manager between 2017 and 2019.

Fresh Faces Incoming

According to trusted insider @UnplayableZA on X, Pirates are gearing up to announce up to eight new signings soon. Among the names tipped to join are Sihle Nduli, Kabelo Kgositsile, Tshepo Mashilone, Yanela Mbuthuma, Masindi Nemtajela, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, and Tshepang Moremi.

Striker Competition Heating Up

One player to watch is Yanela Mbuthuma, who could challenge established forwards Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa for a spot up front. Last season, Mbuthuma scored five goals and provided two assists in 24 league appearances for Richards Bay — a promising return that could earn him a key role at Pirates.

With Mokwena’s return and a potential influx of new talent, Orlando Pirates look ready to shake things up and make a strong push next season.
