Orlando Pirates are pushing hard to secure Deon Hotto’s future at the club, despite growing attention from teams in the Middle East and North Africa, including Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly—now managed by former Pirates coach Jose Riveiro.

The Namibian midfielder, who joined the Buccaneers from Bidvest Wits in 2020, has become a key figure in the squad. His tireless work rate, versatility, and leadership qualities on and off the field have made him indispensable.

Contract renewal talks already in motion

With Hotto’s contract nearing its end, Pirates have moved quickly to offer him a new deal. The club values his consistent performances and the senior role he plays, both during games and within the dressing room.

“A renewal offer has been made, and the club is eager to keep him,” a club insider confirmed.

Hotto’s presence is crucial in mentoring younger players, which aligns with Pirates’ strategy of mixing youth and experience for the coming seasons. His retention is seen as vital for maintaining team balance and leadership.

Al Ahly interest genuine but move unlikely

Although there are rumors linking Hotto with a move to Al Ahly to reunite with Riveiro, sources say such a transfer is unlikely. While Riveiro holds Hotto in high regard, any signing would need approval from Al Ahly’s board, and Hotto’s age—now 34—could be a concern for the Egyptian side.

Pirates aiming to wrap up deal before pre-season

Despite overseas interest, Pirates are focused on finalizing Hotto’s contract extension well ahead of pre-season training. The negotiations are said to be progressing well.

With his influence on the pitch and in the squad still strong, securing Hotto’s future at the club remains a top priority as Pirates prepare to compete both locally and continentally.
