Kaizer Chiefs are pushing ahead with plans to rebuild their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, and they’re looking for smart, budget-friendly signings to boost their quality on the pitch.
Following a disappointing campaign, the Soweto giants have already made room for fresh faces by releasing a few players. That includes the likes of development product Lungelo Nkosi, who played a role in the club’s DStv Diski Challenge-winning side but has now joined TS Galaxy on a free transfer. Academy graduate Donay Jansen Radebe was also let go, signaling a clear shift in the club’s squad strategy.
According to respected sports journalist Uche Anuma, Amakhosi should keep a close eye on Mamelodi Sundowns, who are reportedly preparing to offload up to 11 players this off-season. New Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is believed to be trimming his bloated squad, creating a rare opportunity for rival teams.
Speaking exclusively to Briefly News, Anuma listed three Sundowns players that Chiefs could realistically sign without breaking the bank — players who still have the talent to make an impact:
“Kaizer Chiefs can definitely benefit from Sundowns’ summer clear-out,” Anuma explained. “One player I’d highlight is Sipho Mbule. He spent most of last season on loan at Sekhukhune United and won’t have his contract renewed. That’s a big opportunity for Chiefs to swoop in.”
This potential strategy could help Chiefs balance their books while adding proven PSL experience to their squad.
With fan expectations sky-high for the 2025/26 campaign, Chiefs’ recruitment strategy will be under the spotlight. Landing quality players like Mbule — and possibly two other experienced Sundowns names — could be the key to getting Amakhosi back into title contention.
