Orlando Pirates are reportedly making a big move on the coaching front after parting ways with Spanish coach Jose Riveiro at the end of last season. Riveiro’s three-year tenure brought five trophies to the club, securing his place in Pirates’ proud history.
Now, the club appears ready to start a new chapter under fresh leadership.
According to trusted local outlet Unplayable, Pirates have chosen their new head coach — and it’s a name fans will remember. Rulani Mokwena, who briefly managed the club back in 2019, is poised to return as Jose Riveiro’s successor.
A lifelong Pirates supporter, Mokwena’s previous stint saw him in charge for 14 matches, achieving four wins, five draws, and five defeats before being let go. Since then, he has gained valuable experience coaching top teams like Wydad Athletic Club and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Now, six years later, he’s back — this time as one of Africa’s most respected coaches.
The big question: Can Mokwena finally deliver the league title to Orlando Pirates? He has already won the league with fierce rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, and Pirates have struggled to keep pace with Masandawana in recent seasons.
Could Mokwena be the catalyst to change the Buccaneers’ fortunes? Time will tell.
