Orlando Pirates have said goodbye to Innocent Maela and Miguel Timm, sparking concerns among fans about the future of other club veterans.
Pirates shake up their squad
Captain Innocent Maela and experienced midfielder Miguel Timm have both been released by Orlando Pirates. Rumors are swirling that Deon Hotto, one of the team’s highest earners, might be next to leave.
One fan on X pleaded, “Do not touch King Hotto,” highlighting how important the versatile 34-year-old Namibian remains to the team. Since arriving from Wits in 2020, Hotto has made over 200 appearances and won six trophies with the Buccaneers. Known for his adaptability across different positions and tactical setups, Hotto is a fan favorite and a key figure in the squad — truly an underrated gem.
Sesane’s return on the horizon
Thabiso Sesane was a defensive rock for Pirates at the start of the season, so his February tendon injury and subsequent surgery was a huge setback. Recovery is expected to take four to six months, meaning Sesane could be ready to rejoin the squad for the 2025-2026 season kickoff.
Potential new coach in the mix
At 44, Pablo Franco Martin is being eyed as a strong candidate to take the helm at Pirates. The Madrid-born coach brings a wealth of experience, having worked as an Opposition Analyst for Real Madrid and held head coaching positions at Simba SC in Tanzania, AmaZulu, Kuwaiti side Qadsia SC, and most recently Al-Faisaly in Saudi Arabia’s second division.
