Orlando Pirates legend Moeneeb Josephs has voiced his frustration with Monnapule Saleng, who hasn’t featured for the club in over six months — reportedly due to an ongoing contract standoff.

Neither Saleng nor the club has officially addressed the situation, but Josephs believes the winger’s absence has hurt the Buccaneers, especially during a crucial part of the season when the team was pushing for league and CAF Champions League success.

“He Let the Team Down”

Speaking on Soccer Beat, Josephs didn’t hold back:
“Every season brings new talent. Yes, I understand he had a contract issue and outside influences, but now it’s working against him. The club has signed new players and is looking forward — not backward.”

Josephs praised Saleng’s ability but questioned his mindset and loyalty during the team’s time of need.

“Saleng is a special player, no doubt, but when Pirates needed him the most, he wasn’t there. That’s what people will remember. Outside voices pulled him away, and that’s disappointing.”

He added that despite being a fan of Saleng’s talent, the situation has become exhausting:
“I love watching him play, but this situation has dragged on too long. I’m over it.”

With pre-season already underway and the squad preparing to travel to Spain, it remains unclear whether Saleng will join the team. His future with the Buccaneers is now more uncertain than ever.
