With Kaizer Chiefs preparing for a major rebuild under incoming coach Nasreddine Nabi, fans have begun speculating whether Percy Tau could be the missing piece to their attacking puzzle in the upcoming Betway Premiership season.

Tau recently became a free agent after a brief stint with Qatar SC, reigniting old links with Amakhosi — a club he supported growing up. Though Chiefs had reportedly shown interest in signing him after his exit from Al Ahly, the former Mamelodi Sundowns star chose to move abroad instead.

Now that he’s available again and Chiefs are searching for experienced attackers, could Naturena be his next destination?

PERCY TAU OPEN TO RETURN — BUT WHERE TO?

Speaking in a candid interview on 947, Tau addressed the ongoing speculation. While he admitted that his heart remains close to Sundowns, he didn’t rule out a move to any team willing to approach him — including Chiefs, Pirates, or even Stellenbosch FC.

“If Sundowns don’t come forward and Chiefs do, then that’s not on me,” Tau said. “I’m open to any serious offer.”

JUNIOR KHANYE SAYS “NO” TO CHIEFS OR PIRATES FOR TAU

However, not everyone is convinced Tau should join one of the Soweto giants. Former star Junior Khanye believes Tau no longer has the edge to thrive in such high-pressure environments.

“He’s not the same player from five or six years ago,” Khanye said on iDiski TV. “He doesn’t have the same pace or sharpness anymore. At clubs like Pirates or Chiefs, you need to deliver immediately.”

Khanye warned that Tau might struggle under expectations, especially with talk of earning up to R400,000 per month, saying:

“That kind of salary comes with massive pressure. If he doesn’t perform, it could backfire.”

Khanye added that if players like Khama Billiat and Gaston Sirino struggled to carry Chiefs, it’s unrealistic to expect Tau to perform miracles.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR TAU?

Khanye suggests the best move for Tau would be to return to Sundowns, even if it means taking a pay cut. He believes the club could offer stability now and post-retirement — and that Tau still has something to offer, especially in the CAF Champions League.

“He’s got experience and technical ability. Bring him back, use him wisely, and let him finish strong,” said Khanye.
