There’s renewed hope that Percy Tau could land at Naturena — and this time, on a free transfer.
Kaizer Chiefs have long admired the former Mamelodi Sundowns star, and with his sudden release from Qatar SC, the path may finally be clear for a move. Tau’s time in Qatar was short-lived, lasting only 10 games due to persistent injuries. While he didn’t score, he still managed to provide four assists, showing flashes of his quality.
Free Agent After Qatar Exit
On Thursday, Qatar SC announced Tau’s departure alongside a mass clear-out that included their head coach and several other big names. With his contract now terminated, Tau is a free agent and open to new offers — a situation that could benefit Chiefs, who previously couldn’t afford to buy him out of his Al Ahly deal.
Now that there’s no transfer fee involved, only a personal agreement would stand between Amakhosi and the Lion of Judah. That said, Tau’s next move remains uncertain, with reported interest still coming from Iran, North Africa, and within South Africa.
Amakhosi Fan Hopes Dashed?
Despite the optimism, Chiefs may not be actively pursuing Tau anymore. In a recent interaction on the club’s official Facebook page, a fan pleaded with the team to bring Tau to Naturena — but the page admin seemingly shut the door on the idea, hinting there’s no current interest from the club.
Still, coach Nasreddine Nabi is believed to be in the market for seasoned attacking talent. Whether that includes Tau or not is unclear, but if the opportunity is there and the price is right, who knows? This could be the perfect moment for Chiefs to finally make the dream a reality.
