Orlando Pirates have been quick to act in securing new players ahead of the upcoming season, but their transfer business is far from over.
At the top of their wishlist is AmaZulu’s standout midfielder Tshepang Moremi, though Pirates face stiff competition from rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, making his signing a challenging task.
Another player they pursued was Congolese forward Fiston Mayele, but the club reportedly pulled out of negotiations after his price exceeded R70 million, which was beyond their budget.
Veterans Eyeing the Exit Door?
Earlier in the 2024/25 season, former PSL Player of the Year Patrick Maswanganyi expressed his desire to move to Europe. However, there has been no update on this transfer during the current offseason.
Maswanganyi’s former coach, Farouk Khan, believes the player is ready for the next step.
“Patrick really wants to play in Europe. If Orlando Pirates allow him to make the move, it would benefit not only the club but also him and South African football as a whole,” Khan said. “He could have stayed longer in Portugal, but impatience cost him at the time. Many players from Brazil, Argentina, and Africa use Portugal as a stepping stone to bigger European leagues. The door isn’t closed; he can still make a successful move.”
Meanwhile, winger Monnapule Saleng appears likely to leave this winter after not featuring in the PSL since last November, but so far, there’s been limited interest from other clubs.
