Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up to strengthen their attack ahead of the upcoming season, with plans to bring in at least two new strikers.
Despite winning the Nedbank Cup, Chiefs struggled to finish in the top eight last season, largely due to a lack of firepower upfront.
Chiefs in search of a reliable goal scorer
When coach Nasreddine Nabi took charge last season, he made it clear that the team needed a proven striker. During the campaign, he relied mainly on Ranga Chivaviro and Wandile Duba, while Ashley du Preez returned from injury to contribute. The club also signed two forwards—Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo—with mixed results. Lilepo impressed by scoring five goals, becoming Chiefs’ joint top scorer, but Morris failed to make an impact.
Now, Nabi is focused on finding a complete striker to solve Chiefs’ goal-scoring woes. Several names have been linked to the club ahead of the transfer window, including Fiston Mayele, who recently scored in the CAF Champions League final to help Pyramids FC claim their first continental title against Mamelodi Sundowns. Another rumored target is Etiosa Ighodaro from Sundowns.
Rumors about Bienvenu Eva Nga denied
A surprising name that resurfaced is former Orlando Pirates striker Bienvenu Eva Nga, who was once linked with Chiefs before moving to Pirates. However, according to Soccer Laduma, those rumors are not true.
A source told the publication, “No, not at this stage. That’s not the move you can expect. There was talk in the past, but not now.”
Another insider added, “Chiefs are currently focused on signing attacking players from abroad. I haven’t heard anything about Eva Nga.”
So for now, Chiefs remain focused on strengthening their frontline with new signings from overseas rather than looking locally for strikers.
