Kaizer Chiefs have added experience and depth to their defensive ranks by securing the services of Paseka Mako, the versatile left-back who recently parted ways with Orlando Pirates.
Just a day after the Buccaneers released the 31-year-old defender on 7 June, Mako was already in advanced talks with Amakhosi — and has now reportedly sealed a deal that will keep him at Naturena until 2028.
According to reports from FARPost, Mako has agreed to a three-year contract, officially starting on 1 July, giving Chiefs a reliable and seasoned option down the left flank.
New Chapter After a Challenging Season
Mako struggled for consistent game time last season due to a combination of injury setbacks, strong competition from Deon Hotto, and the emergence of youngsters Mbekezeli Mbokazi and Yanga Madiba. He made just 17 appearances, mostly from the bench, as Pirates opted to invest in youth.
Now, Mako will be looking for a fresh start at Chiefs, where he is expected to battle for the left-back position with Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, and Edmilson Dove. However, it’s understood that Mashiane and Dove’s futures at the club remain uncertain, opening the door for Mako to stake his claim.
Chiefs Continue Reshuffle Ahead of 2025/26 Season
The signing of Mako signals another step in Kaizer Chiefs’ squad rebuild, as they aim to re-establish themselves among South Africa’s elite. The club is also reportedly preparing to offload several players and bring in new talent to turn their fortunes around.
Mako brings pace, experience, and defensive discipline — traits that Chiefs fans will hope can bolster the club’s left flank as they gear up for the new campaign.
