Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly stepping up efforts to bolster their attacking department ahead of the new season, as the club looks to finally solve its long-standing scoring issues.
Striker search gaining momentum
Amakhosi have lacked consistency in front of goal, and head coach Nasreddine Nabi has been vocal about his desire to sign a proven forward. Despite failing to secure one in his first window, the club brought in Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo in January. Unfortunately, Morris didn’t make much impact, while Lilepo, alongside youngster Wandile Duba, ended the season as joint top scorers — with just five goals each.
That statistic alone highlights how badly the team needs a top-tier striker to lead the line. Several names have been linked to the role, including DR Congo international Fiston Mayele and Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Etiosa Ighodaro.
Chiefs set sights on Europe
The search has now reportedly extended to Europe. According to Sportswire, Kaizer Chiefs have turned their attention to Slovakian attacker Robert Polievka, who currently plays for MTK Budapest in Hungary.
“Kaizer Chiefs are interested in Slovakian attacker Robert Polievka. However, his contract with MTK Budapest runs until 2027, so a transfer fee will be required,” the outlet revealed.
Is Polievka the answer?
Despite the interest, concerns have been raised over the 27-year-old’s numbers. Polievka managed only four goals in 26 appearances across all competitions — a figure that doesn’t exactly inspire confidence for a team desperate for firepower.
However, history has shown that strikers from Eastern Europe sometimes adapt well and flourish in the South African league. That could explain why Chiefs’ scouting team, led by Tera Maliwa, is willing to take the risk.
