In less than two years, Kaizer Chiefs have brought in two attacking players from the Democratic Republic of Congo, starting with striker/winger Christian Saile and most recently, the tall and agile winger Glody Lilepo in January.
Now, reports suggest that Chiefs are targeting another Congolese attacker — an attacking midfielder named Maxi Ngenzeli, currently with Young Africans in Tanzania.
Interestingly, Ngenzeli is already familiar to Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, who worked closely with the goal-scoring midfielder during the 2021/22 season at Yanga SC.
Is Maxi Ngenzeli the Next Betway Premiership Star?
An insider shared with Soccer Laduma that while Chiefs haven’t finalized signings yet, they are casting a wide net to find the players who best fit their needs this season.
Could Mihlali Mayambela Be Returning to Chiefs?
Adding to the transfer buzz, another exciting winger linked with Chiefs is Mihlali Mayambela — a 28-year-old Bafana Bafana star currently playing for Aris Limassol in Cyprus.
Mayambela, originally from Khayelitsha, left South Africa for Europe as a teenager nearly a decade ago. Now, he is reportedly keen on making a PSL comeback, with Chiefs as his preferred destination.
According to iDiski Times’ Sinethemba Makonco, Mayambela has a special connection with Chiefs, having represented their under-15 side during his youth.
