Kaizer Chiefs are intensifying their transfer activity with an eye on bolstering key positions, and two recently released Orlando Pirates defenders have landed on their radar.

With the contracts of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane not renewed by the Buccaneers, Chiefs are reportedly in talks to swoop in—particularly with a focus on the experienced left-back, Mako.

Mako Now a Top Target After Basadien Setback

Chiefs initially set their sights on Fawaaz Basadien of Stellenbosch FC as their preferred left-back signing. However, with Stellies reluctant to part ways with their prized Bafana Bafana defender, Amakhosi are now pushing to secure 31-year-old Mako, who featured prominently for Pirates last season with 26 appearances.

According to SABC Sport, discussions between Mako and Chiefs are at an advanced stage. The Glamour Boys see the former Pirates man as a ready-made solution to their defensive gaps heading into the new campaign. Interestingly, Pirates’ decision to part ways with Mako has raised eyebrows, especially considering his consistent game time last season.

Oswin Appollis Back on Chiefs’ Radar

In attack, Kaizer Chiefs are also actively pursuing Oswin Appollis, the Polokwane City and Bafana Bafana winger. The 23-year-old, who recently featured in South Africa’s goalless draw against Tanzania, is viewed as a key piece in Chiefs’ attacking rebuild.

An insider told Soccer Laduma:

“Chiefs’ interest in Appollis is no secret. Talks are progressing, and the deal looks promising. It’s only a matter of working through a few remaining logistics.”

While earlier reports linked Chiefs with Elias Mokwana, sources now clarify that Appollis is the club’s real target, with the move edging closer to completion.
