Kaizer Chiefs have an exciting new young talent for fans to keep an eye on — Thulani Mabaso. Supporters might get their first chance to see the promising midfielder in action during the upcoming European pre-season tour in the Netherlands.
Meet Thulani Mabaso
Born in 2004, Mabaso is a left-footed defensive midfielder who’s been part of the Chiefs family since he was just 14 years old. Now entering his fourth year in the club’s development system, Mabaso is a true product of the Chiefs’ style and culture.
The club described him back in January 2023 as a player who “can pick out teammates with precision, both with long and short passes.” Solid defensively and quick to launch attacks, he’s already showing the qualities of a midfield general.
Chiefs’ Exciting European Tour
The Glamour Boys are preparing to jet off to the Netherlands on 3 July, embarking on a two-week pre-season tour until 19 July. This trip will take them through the land that produced legends like Dennis Bergkamp, Virgil van Dijk, and Wesley Sneijder — and young talents like Mabaso will get the chance to test themselves on European soil.
Interestingly, George Matlou is also included in the travelling squad, much to some fans’ surprise.
Off-Field Drama: Sirino’s Tax Trouble
Meanwhile, not all is smooth off the pitch. Reports from Sunday World reveal that Gaston Sirino, the 34-year-old Uruguayan midfielder, is facing a hefty tax bill after allegedly ignoring a SARS request to pay R6 million in unpaid taxes.
