Kaizer Chiefs are back in pursuit of Mamelodi Sundowns defender Terrence Mashego after missing out on signing the 28-year-old earlier this year.

Mashego, who only featured in four league games last season, was notably absent from Sundowns’ squad traveling to the FIFA Club World Cup in the US, hinting that the club may be open to letting him go. Reports suggest Mashego himself is also keen on a move away.

Another defensive target for Chiefs is SuperSport United’s promising left-back Neo Rapoo. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the hottest prospects this transfer window.

“Both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are actively pursuing SuperSport United’s Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season,” a source confirmed.

“Rapoo’s standout performances leading South Africa’s U20 team to the Africa Cup of Nations title have attracted interest from clubs in Scandinavia and the Gulf. However, both Chiefs and Pirates are serious contenders for his signature, seeing him as a future regular in the senior national team.”

“With Orlando Pirates having let go of Paseka Mako and Innocent Maela retiring, their pursuit of Rapoo makes sense, while Chiefs are eager to strengthen a position that’s troubled them in recent seasons.”

In other news, Chiefs have secured a two-year contract extension for experienced midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa, keeping him at the club until 2028.

“Ahead of the season’s end, Chiefs began talks to keep Mthethwa on board, and things are progressing well,” a source revealed. “While he struggled initially under coach Nasreddine Nabi, the club now values his contribution, which is why they’re offering him a new deal.”

“If all goes smoothly, his new contract will run through to June 2028.”
