Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly optimistic about sealing a deal to bring Fiston Mayele to Naturena for the upcoming season. The talented striker is the top priority for head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has openly expressed his desire to reunite with the Congolese marksman.
A Proven Partnership from Tanzania
Nabi and Mayele share a strong professional bond dating back to their time together at Tanzanian giants Yanga SC. During that period, Nabi relied heavily on Mayele as his main goal scorer, and the DRC international delivered consistently. Their partnership yielded incredible success, including a historic double treble and a memorable run to the CAF Confederation Cup final.
After the 2022/23 season, both parted ways: Nabi took up a role at AS FAR in Morocco, while Mayele moved to Egyptian side Pyramids FC. Though separated, their paths were again linked last season when Nabi joined Chiefs, sparking speculation about a reunion.
Mayele’s Success in Egypt and Chiefs’ Ambition
While Nabi’s tenure at Chiefs saw them lift the Nedbank Cup, the team struggled in the league, finishing outside the top eight—a sign that more firepower upfront is needed. Mayele has been identified as the ideal solution.
However, according to Soccer-Laduma, the financial hurdle is significant. Pyramids FC reportedly offer Mayele a lucrative deal worth about R74 million over two years, which dwarfs Chiefs’ current offer.
The Numbers Game
Chiefs are said to be proposing a package that includes a R5 million signing-on fee spread over three years and a monthly salary between R1 million and R1.5 million. This totals approximately R53 million, leaving a gap of about R21 million compared to Pyramids’ offer.
A source explained, “The only way Mayele joins Chiefs is if the player truly wants to reunite with coach Nabi. It’s not going to be about the money because Pyramids are offering him more than Chiefs can match.”
