Kaizer Chiefs’ long-standing struggles at left-back may finally be coming to an end ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
First, it was reported that Paseka Mako is on his way to Naturena — with his official announcement expected soon. Now, fresh reports suggest that 25-year-old South African defender Nkanyiso Shinga is also close to sealing a deal with Amakhosi.
Chiefs and FC Alverca Agree on Deal
According to FARPost, Kaizer Chiefs have reached a transfer agreement with Portuguese club FC Alverca for the Durban-born left-back. Shinga is now expected to join Chiefs before the start of the new campaign, bringing new energy and depth to a position that has troubled the club for years.
Shinga’s Long Road Back to SA
Shinga left South Africa seven years ago after graduating from the respected KZN Academy, and since then, he’s built his career in Portugal. He’s turned out for several teams including Setúbal U19, Estrela U23, Vitória FC U23, SC Covilhã, Juv. Évora, Pinhalnovense, and most recently Alverca. Now, he’s set to finally make his debut in the DStv Premiership with one of the country’s biggest clubs.
His journey from youth systems in KZN to the European lower leagues and now to Kaizer Chiefs is a testament to patience and persistence — and Amakhosi fans will be eager to see what he brings to the table.
