Kaizer Chiefs’ marketing director, Jessica Motaung, has firmly denied suggestions that the club is reluctant to spend money on player signings.

In recent years, Amakhosi have been criticised for not splashing big money on transfers, often turning to free agents instead. However, speaking during the launch of the Toyota Cup, Motaung made it clear that Chiefs are investing where it counts — and aren’t afraid to open the chequebook.

“We Spend – And We Spend Big”

“Chiefs pay a lot of money, sir,” Motaung responded when asked about the club’s transfer strategy. “So I’m honestly surprised by that narrative. It’s absolute nonsense. When I look at our budgets and what we’re putting into players and transfers, it’s clear we’re investing seriously.”

Clubs Demanding Too Much?

Motaung also questioned the fairness of the South African transfer market, hinting that inflated asking prices are sometimes to blame for stalled deals.

“We have to ask ourselves if the negotiations in our local market are fair. Are clubs asking reasonable prices for their players? It’s not just about spending — it’s about value,” she said.

While Chiefs have yet to confirm any new signings for the upcoming season, they have released five players and are preparing for an intense pre-season camp in the Netherlands next month.

Motaung assured fans that new player announcements are on the horizon:
“You’ll see some fresh faces soon — both on the field and in the technical team.”
