In a dramatic turn of events, former Orlando Pirates right-back Thabiso Monyane may be heading straight into the arms of their fiercest rivals—Kaizer Chiefs.

Barely a day after being released by the Buccaneers, reports now suggest that the 24-year-old defender has been offered to Amakhosi on a free transfer. Monyane, a product of the Pirates development system, made his senior debut in 2019 and has since amassed 95 appearances in black and white.

Despite his lengthy stay and flashes of brilliance, the Soweto giants decided against extending his contract beyond June 2025. This surprising exit has now opened the door for a potential move across town to Naturena.

According to SABC Sport, Chiefs have been approached with the opportunity to sign Monyane as they continue rebuilding their squad ahead of the new season.

“Kaizer Chiefs have been presented with the opportunity to sign right back Thabiso Monyane, whose contract with Orlando Pirates runs out this month,” the report revealed.

This potential switch adds even more intrigue to the fierce rivalry between the two Soweto giants. With Chiefs in search of fresh energy in the right-back role, Monyane’s arrival could provide just that. However, questions remain: will he be the right fit for Amakhosi? And did Pirates make the right call by letting him go?

Let us know—would you welcome Monyane at Kaizer Chiefs, or is this a transfer gamble not worth taking?
