Kaizer Chiefs haven’t lifted the league trophy since the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter. They nearly clinched it again in the 2019/20 campaign but fell short on the final day to Mamelodi Sundowns. Since then, Amakhosi have struggled to make an impact, finishing outside the top 8 for two straight seasons in the Betway Premiership.

Under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Chiefs managed to end their silverware drought by winning the Nedbank Cup — their first major trophy in a decade. But with pre-season just weeks away, Chiefs must strengthen their squad with quality signings if they want to challenge for the league title next season.

Can Kaizer Chiefs finally claim the PSL crown again?
With the current squad, it’s unlikely Chiefs will be serious title contenders. Nabi will need to bring in at least five key players to boost the team’s chances of competing for major honours.

Here are five players Kaizer Chiefs should target to make a real title push:

Feisal Salum
The Tanzanian midfielder offers creativity and goals from the middle of the park — something Chiefs have lacked recently. His ability to both score and assist could transform their attack.

Fiston Mayele
The Congolese striker is a big-money target, and signing him won’t be easy given his high price and wage demands. After winning the CAF Champions League with Pyramids FC, Mayele has become one of the hottest forwards around, with interest from Middle Eastern clubs. If Chiefs manage to secure him, their goal-scoring problems could be a thing of the past.

Oswin Appollis
At just 23, the speedy winger from Polokwane City could be a great long-term signing for Chiefs. His absence in Polokwane’s final match sparked transfer rumours, and if he joins Naturena, he could add valuable pace and energy on the flanks.

Fawaaz Basadien
The Bafana Bafana left-back has been linked with Chiefs for nearly two years now. With him, Miguel Inacio, and Rushwin Dortley at the back, Chiefs could finally shore up a defence that conceded the third-most goals last season.

Monnapule Saleng
Saleng, who bagged five trophies with Orlando Pirates, might be looking for a fresh start after being sidelined at Bucs for months. A move to Chiefs has been whispered about recently, and if it happens, he could bring some much-needed attacking flair to Naturena.
