After years of dominance with Mamelodi Sundowns, veteran defender Rivaldo Coetzee has officially parted ways with the club following the expiration of his contract.

At just 27, Coetzee leaves Chloorkop as a decorated player, having lifted an impressive seven Premier Soccer League (PSL) titles with the Brazilians. Now, with his chapter at Sundowns closed, new opportunities are already knocking.

Coetzee Attracts Interest from Local Rivals

According to insider reports, Stellenbosch FC and Sekhukhune United are both monitoring Coetzee’s situation closely.

“Stellies are very interested, but nothing formal has been tabled yet. Sekhukhune are also keen,” a source revealed to The Citizen.

With his experience and versatility, Coetzee could be a huge asset to either side as they look to bolster their squads ahead of the new season.

Sundowns Gear Up for FIFA Club World Cup in the USA

While Coetzee moves on, his former club is preparing for one of its biggest stages yet — the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Mamelodi Sundowns departed from OR Tambo International Airport last Sunday to begin their preparations in Florida. The Brazilians will go head-to-head with the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain, who are among the tournament’s elite participants.

It’s a massive opportunity for the reigning Betway Premiership champions to test themselves against global football powerhouses and showcase South African talent on the world stage.

As one chapter closes for Rivaldo Coetzee, another begins for both him and Sundowns. Whether it’s a fresh start at Stellenbosch or Sekhukhune—or perhaps even a surprise move elsewhere—his next step will be one to watch. Meanwhile, Sundowns will carry the South African flag high on the international stage.
