Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up for a major squad shake-up ahead of the 2025/26 campaign as they aim to rebuild and challenge for top honours once again.
Despite lifting the Nedbank Cup, Amakhosi ended another league season outside the top eight, exposing glaring inconsistencies that management is now eager to address.
A Three-Pronged Strategy Unfolds
With the new season fast approaching, the Chiefs’ technical team is reportedly pursuing a three-step strategy: bring in fresh talent to mount a serious push in both the domestic league and cup competitions, strengthen the squad for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, and clear out players who no longer fit into the club’s long-term vision. Retention of key performers is also part of the plan.
Trio Already Shown the Door
The first wave of departures has already begun. Sabelo Radebe, Njabulo Blom, and Ranga Chivaviro have all been released. And while more exits are on the cards, one player who looks set to stay put is Sibongiseni Mthethwa.
Mthethwa Turns Things Around
Mthethwa’s journey last season was a tale of two halves. Initially out of favour with head coach Nasreddine Nabi, he was reportedly up for sale. However, the combative midfielder clawed his way back into contention with a string of solid performances, especially during the team’s successful Nedbank Cup run.
New Deal on the Table
Now, in a turn of events, Mthethwa is expected to be rewarded with a contract extension. According to Soccer-Laduma, talks between the club and the player began before the season wrapped up and are progressing positively. A two-year extension appears to be on the table, though final terms still need to be agreed upon.
