Wydad Athletic Club supporters were shaken on Monday when news broke that head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem was involved in a car accident. The Moroccan giants, known as the Red Castle, are currently gearing up for their last match of the FIFA Club World Cup, set for Thursday against Al Ain FC at Audi Field Stadium.

Though Wydad’s tournament hopes were dashed early following a heavy 3-0 loss to Manchester City and a narrow defeat to Juventus, the team showed sparks of fighting spirit and attacking skill — with South African star Thembinkosi Lorch standing out. Still, they couldn’t find the back of the net enough to stay in contention.

Now, the Botola Pro League side looks to secure a positive finish with a win over Al Ain. However, it’s still unclear if coach Benhachem will be able to lead the team from the sidelines after the accident.

The club confirmed the incident, revealing that Benhachem was traveling with two other club members. Thankfully, everyone involved is reported to be in good health and receiving proper medical attention.

Wydad issued an official statement:

“This morning, a traffic accident occurred involving coach Amine Benhachem, along with Youssef Dabbagh, Dr. Hafti, and technical staff member Ali. Praise be to God, no serious injuries were recorded, and all are in good health and receiving necessary care.”

The club also thanked emergency responders and FIFA officials for their swift and professional handling of the situation, while urging fans to avoid spreading rumors and to trust only verified information.

With the situation under control, Wydad fans will now focus on the team’s final FIFA Club World Cup outing, hoping for a strong performance to close out their campaign.
