Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper and club legend Moeneb Josephs has openly criticized ex-Bucs stars Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane following their recent release and rumored move to rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
Mako, who proudly wore the Pirates jersey for six seasons, made over 100 appearances and helped the club secure six trophies. Yet Josephs feels today’s players prioritize money over loyalty.
Speaking on Soccer Beat with Lebohang Mokoena, Josephs lamented, “These days, players just chase the cash. I wanted to thank the boys for their time at Pirates, but then I saw they’d joined Chiefs. It’s disappointing.”
He added, “There’s no pride or loyalty left. When you cross the street to our biggest rivals, it shows no ambition or respect for the badge you once wore.”
Pirates’ Coaching Future in Question
As the Buccaneers prepare for pre-season, speculation grows over who will lead the team next. Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is reportedly the frontrunner.
However, Josephs isn’t convinced Mokwena is the right fit. He recalled that Mokwena’s brief spell as Pirates coach in 2019 was marred by internal conflicts.
Now a free agent after leaving Wydad Casablanca, the 38-year-old coach is said to be in talks with Pirates management—but Josephs remains wary about his potential return.
