Several players who once took to the field for Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup clash against Kaizer Chiefs are now training with their fierce Soweto derby rivals.

Kaizer Chiefs have been spotted integrating new faces into their training sessions, including not only talent from Mamelodi Sundowns but also some ex-Orlando Pirates players. The rumors were true — not just one but two recent Pirates departures have joined Amakhosi’s ranks.

Mako and Monyane Make the Switch

Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane, both recent exits from the Buccaneers, are now training with Chiefs. They are among four Pirates players to have moved on this season, alongside former club captain Innocent Maela and midfielder Miguel Timm, who have also left the Bucs.

These departures clear the way for a fresh leadership group as Pirates prepare to welcome a new coach and rebuild their squad for a new era.

Meanwhile, Chiefs are gearing up to announce multiple signings, including the surprise arrivals of Mako and Monyane. Few fans could have predicted seeing two Pirates players make the switch to their traditional rivals, adding an intriguing twist to the Soweto derby rivalry.

Transfer Activity Heating Up at Both Clubs

Orlando Pirates have already secured seven new signings and are closing in on a highly sought-after Bafana Bafana attacker to bolster their squad.

On the other hand, Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly finalizing deals for players from Pirates, Sundowns, and the national team. Coach Nasreddine Nabi’s transfer wishlist has also been unveiled, highlighting Chiefs’ key targets across all positions as they prepare to strengthen the squad.
