Kaizer Chiefs kicked off training on January 20, but a few players—Mduduzi Shabalala, Bruce Bvuma, Wandile Duba, and Aden McCarthy—were given extra leave after their involvement in the COSAFA Cup.

All four are expected to join the squad’s upcoming European pre-season trip.

Could Sipho Mbule be next at Chiefs?
The free agent Sipho Mbule, formerly of Mamelodi Sundowns, remains a potential target for Amakhosi. His agent, Mike Makaab, has pitched him to Chiefs, though the club has yet to make a call.

Battle for Neo Rapoo heats up
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are both competing to sign SuperSport United’s talented left-back Neo Rapoo.

An insider revealed, “Both Pirates and Chiefs are keen on Neo Rapoo ahead of the new season. After leading South Africa U20 to the Africa Cup of Nations title, he has drawn interest from Scandinavia and the Gulf. Chiefs and Pirates are serious about securing a player viewed as the future senior national team left-back.”

With Pirates having released Paseka Mako and the retirement of Innocent Maela, their pursuit of Rapoo makes sense. Chiefs, on the other hand, see him as a solution to a problematic position in recent seasons.
