Kaizer Chiefs may soon lose a vital member of their technical staff as Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club has made a tempting offer to strength and conditioning coach Majdi Safi.

Safi joined Chiefs at the start of last season, brought in by head coach Nasreddine Nabi with a clear goal: to ignite the team’s potential. His impact was swift, helping Amakhosi end a decade-long trophy drought by clinching the Nedbank Cup — a triumph that sparked hope for a new chapter at Naturena.

Now, Wydad are targeting Safi, hoping to lure the Tunisian performance specialist away with a lucrative contract. With only one year left on his Chiefs deal, the Moroccan club see an opportunity to secure his services before he becomes a free agent.

Inside sources at Chiefs have noticed Safi’s absence as the squad kicked off pre-season training, sparking rumors and uncertainty about his future.

It remains unclear whether Safi will accept Wydad’s offer or honour his contract and continue building with Chiefs, a source revealed.

This situation echoes a similar scenario from last year, when Fernando da Cruz abruptly left Chiefs for a role with the Moroccan Football Association shortly after joining — leaving Amakhosi in a difficult spot.

If Safi decides to follow in da Cruz’s footsteps, Chiefs could face another blow to a technical team only just beginning to find its rhythm. Safi’s contribution to Chiefs’ recent success has been significant, and his departure could stall the club’s momentum as they aim to build on their Nedbank Cup win.
