Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly weighing up the future of their experienced Venezuelan midfielder, Edson Castillo, who joined the club in 2023 and quickly won over the fans with his dynamic box-to-box style.
Castillo made an immediate impact last season, netting five goals in his debut campaign. However, his 2024/25 season was severely disrupted by a broken fibula injury, restricting him to just seven appearances.
Despite signing a one-year contract extension earlier this year, sources from iDiski Times reveal that the club’s coaching staff has mixed feelings about Castillo’s role moving forward.
“He renewed his deal in February, with an option to extend, and did return late in the season, but opinions within the technical team vary regarding his future at the club,” the report says.
With the player’s representatives already exploring alternatives for the off-season, the possibility of Castillo leaving the club is gaining traction—especially if he doesn’t secure consistent first-team minutes next season.
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi is said to be open to the idea of letting Castillo go, as this would free up space to bring in new foreign signings to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.
