Kaizer Chiefs appear to have had a change of heart regarding midfielder George Matlou, whose future at the club had been hanging in the balance.

Matlou’s current contract is set to expire on 30 June, and until now, the club had not confirmed whether he would be retained or released. Reports previously suggested that the 26-year-old would be shown the door once his deal ran out.

However, according to UnplayableZA, Matlou is listed among the players scheduled to travel with Amakhosi to the Netherlands for their pre-season tour from 3 to 19 July—well after his contract’s official end date.

This development strongly hints that Chiefs may be planning to extend his stay, at least in the short term, as they begin preparations for the new season under fresh leadership.

Matlou joined Chiefs from Moroka Swallows and has since made 40 appearances, contributing three assists. While he hasn’t been a consistent starter, this latest move signals that the club still sees potential in the midfielder.
