At just 20 years old, Orlando Pirates winger Relebohile Mofokeng is already one of the brightest talents in South African football. After a standout season with 12 goals and 15 assists, and having broken into the Bafana Bafana squad with five international caps, the call for a move to Europe is growing louder.

Expectations are sky-high for the rising star from Sharpeville, who developed his craft at the prestigious School of Excellence and even had trials with English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2023.

Father’s Wish: Europe in 2025/2026

His father, Sechaba Mofokeng, a former pro footballer himself, made it clear in an interview with Soccer Laduma that staying in the local league is no longer part of the dream.

“My greatest wish is to see Rele playing overseas next season,” said Sechaba. “I pray every day for that move. I don’t want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season—God willing, it’s time.”

“He Can Play Anywhere in Europe”

The passionate father believes his son has what it takes to compete at the highest level, listing several top European leagues where he believes Relebohile would thrive.

“Spain, England, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland — he can make it anywhere. Barcelona? Yes. PSG? Definitely. As long as it’s Europe, I’ll be happy.”

However, there’s one destination he wants the youngster to avoid—for now.

No to Saudi Arabia… For Now

Despite the lucrative offers many young players are receiving from the Middle East, Sechaba insists that Rele needs competitive football, particularly in UEFA tournaments, to truly develop and reach his potential.

“He’s still young. If he goes to Saudi now, he might miss out on playing at the top level in Europe. Yes, the money is good—but what about happiness and growth?”

“You can have all the money in the world, but if you’re not fulfilled, it doesn’t mean anything.”

With Europe beckoning and his talent undeniable, the next chapter of Relebohile Mofokeng’s story might just begin on a much bigger stage.
