Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their search for a striker ahead of the new season, refocusing on a previously overlooked European target: Robert Polievka.

The Slovak forward first caught the club’s eye during Gavin Hunt’s time as coach. Although Chiefs scouted him back in 2020, a FIFA transfer ban prevented any move from materializing.

Polievka Back in the Picture

Insiders reveal that Chiefs have kept tabs on Polievka’s progress over the years. With their primary target, Fiston Mayele, reportedly heading to Saudi Arabia, the club has renewed interest in Polievka as a practical alternative.

“This isn’t the first time Chiefs have checked on Robert. When Gavin Hunt was in charge, he was on the shortlist alongside players like Thabo Nodada and Kgaogelo Sekgota. But the transfer ban blocked everything. Now, with Mayele seemingly out of reach, they want Polievka again,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

More Experienced, More Ready

Now 28 years old, Polievka is a more seasoned player compared to when Chiefs first targeted him at 24. His recent performances in Europe have impressed scouts, who believe he could help fix Chiefs’ ongoing goal-scoring issues.

Coach Nabi to Decide

The final call on Polievka rests with new head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who will evaluate him as the team reconvenes for pre-season training. Nabi’s decision could define the shape of Amakhosi’s attack for the upcoming campaign.
