Kaizer Chiefs have a backup plan if they fail to land Bafana Bafana winger Oswin Appollis.

Although linked with the 32-year-old for more than a year, Chiefs never made an official offer. Meanwhile, Polokwane City is reportedly open to selling Appollis but would prefer not to strengthen a rival local club.

Now, according to Soccer Laduma, Kaizer Chiefs are considering Mihlali Mayambela as an alternative.

“Mayambela is keen to return to the PSL, and Chiefs are familiar with him from their youth setup,” an insider revealed. “They know his attacking qualities and believe he could add value to the squad. This recommendation comes from both the football and scouting departments, who are happy with his potential.”

Another source confirmed that Mayambela is seen as the next best option should the Appollis deal fall through.

“Chiefs have struggled to secure Appollis and don’t want a repeat of last season’s delays in signing key players that affected their league performance. With their upcoming African campaign, they need a strong and balanced squad. If Appollis isn’t available, Mayambela is the preferred fallback.”
