Kaizer Chiefs could be set to part ways with Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo, just a year after bringing him on board from Monagas SC in July 2023.

Castillo, who joined Naturena at age 29, showed his quality early on by scoring five goals during the 2023/24 Betway Premiership campaign. However, a serious fibula injury derailed his season, limiting him to just seven appearances last term and 41 games overall since arriving.

Foreign Slot at Stake

With the club looking to reshape its squad and possibly bring in new international talent, Castillo’s departure would free up a much-needed foreign player slot. Chiefs are reportedly weighing up their options carefully.

Castillo Seeking More Game Time

According to iDiski Times journalist Lorenz Kohler, the now 31-year-old midfielder is looking for assurances about his role next season. Although he signed a one-year contract extension with an option to renew earlier this year, uncertainty within the technical team has sparked discussions about a possible exit.

“Castillo could be heading for a surprise departure, with his camp already exploring other opportunities in case he isn’t promised more regular minutes,” Kohler reported.

As Kaizer Chiefs continue restructuring under coach Nasreddine Nabi, Castillo’s situation adds yet another twist to the club’s busy off-season.
