Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly struck a verbal agreement with South African right-back Mhleli Mabuza, marking a key move in their mission to bolster the squad’s defence ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Mabuza, who is currently playing in Portugal for Louletano Desportos Clube, raised eyebrows when he began training with Chiefs towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign. His arrival aligned with the club’s plans to reshape their defensive unit.

Trial Period Opens the Door

Initially, Chiefs were cautious and didn’t make an official offer, but that changed following his training stint. Mabuza’s performances caught the attention of the technical team, prompting a shift in approach. Talks reportedly began in earnest around 27 May 2025.

A source familiar with the discussions revealed:
“There was no concrete offer at first, but after assessing him during training, the club decided to move forward. A verbal agreement has now been reached.”

Confidence Growing in Mabuza’s Camp

The 24-year-old’s representatives are optimistic that Chiefs will finalize the deal soon. Mabuza is said to have impressed during his time at Naturena, and his team believes he aligns well with the club’s long-term vision.

With the 2025/26 pre-season around the corner, Chiefs are expected to wrap up the deal quickly to allow Mabuza time to settle and make an early impact in the new campaign.
