The moment is almost here for Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns as they prepare to take on the world’s best at the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
“The Brazilians” departed from OR Tambo International Airport last Sunday and have since settled in Florida ahead of the big tournament.
They’ll be up against some of the planet’s football giants like Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain — all top dogs in the UEFA Champions League.
CAN MAMELODI SUNDOWNS RISE TO THE CHALLENGE?
In Group F, Sundowns face a tough lineup: Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund, Brazil’s powerhouse Fluminense, and South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai.
“These teams are all quality sides,” said Feutmba in an interview with KickOff. “But Sundowns are strong, and they can hold their own.”
He added, “In football, it’s not about reputation — it’s about heart and desire. When I played for Cameroon in the 1990 World Cup, we shocked Argentina by sheer mindset and spirit.”
Feutmba believes Sundowns have what it takes: “It’s 11 against 11. Preparation and focus are key. Most Sundowns players are also national team members, so they’re ready to compete and make it out of the group. This experience will be valuable for them and the country.”
