After Innocent Maela’s departure, Orlando Pirates now face a challenging offseason as they juggle important decisions both on and off the pitch.
Reports suggest that defender Nkosinathi Sibisi is the frontrunner to take over the captain’s armband. However, just like the search for their new coach, only time will reveal who will officially step into this leadership role.
Pirates Go Big in the Transfer Market
Unlike their quiet January window, Orlando Pirates have wasted no time in this offseason. This urgency seems fueled by their earlier inactivity while rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs brought in several new faces.
Already, players like Sihle Nduli, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, and Baroka FC’s defender Tshepho Mashiloane have reportedly signed contracts with the Soweto giants.
Baroka’s chairman, Khurishi Mphahlele, told iDiski Times:
“We will continue paying Mashiloane until the end of June, but Orlando Pirates have bought his services for the upcoming season, not the current one.”
“If Pirates want him sooner, there’s no issue — we have an agreement and can make that happen. But for now, we’ll pay him until June since his contract runs out then, and Pirates’ contract starts on July 1st.”
“From July 1, he’ll officially be an Orlando Pirates player. Until then, he remains with Baroka and we handle his wages.”
