Orlando Pirates are still on the hunt for their next head coach after parting ways with Jose Riveiro, and while the club hasn’t made anything official yet, some big names are already being linked to the job.
Top of the list? None other than Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane, two seasoned coaches with a rich history in South African football.
MPHO MAKOLA BACKS MOKWENA AND MOSIMANE
Former Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola has weighed in on the debate, making it clear who he believes are the best candidates for the hot seat.
“The top two choices for me are definitely Rulani and Pitso,” Makola told FARPost.
“Whoever comes in will face a big task. Pirates need someone with experience — someone proven. The previous coach did well in cup competitions, but the league title is still out of reach. That has to be the goal now.”
Makola highlighted Mokwena’s previous time with the Buccaneers as a major plus, saying his understanding of the club’s setup gives him an edge. Meanwhile, Pitso Mosimane’s success both locally and across Africa speaks for itself.
“These are coaches who know how to win. Pirates need a fresh approach to finally claim the league title again,” he added.
MOKWENA TO MAKE A RETURN?
While speculation continues, reports suggest that Rulani Mokwena is already in advanced discussions with Orlando Pirates. A return to Soweto might be on the cards as the club looks to reclaim domestic dominance.
As fans wait for an official announcement, one thing is clear: the next Pirates coach must be ready to deliver what has eluded them for too long — the DStv Premiership title.
