Despite rumors circulating on social media, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) has confirmed that there were no recorded deaths during this year’s grueling “down” run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

The CMA addressed speculation about two alleged runner fatalities, calling the claims false and urging the public to rely only on official sources.

CMA General Manager Alain Dalais emphasized the event’s strong medical and emergency protocols, noting that while some participants required hospitalization, no lives were lost.
