Former Kaizer Chiefs midfield enforcer Willard Katsande has revealed that there is one Zimbabwean player he would love to see don the famous gold and black jersey at Naturena — if only he wasn’t currently plying his trade in Europe.
Katsande, who made over 300 appearances for the Soweto giants and became a cult hero for his fearless displays in the engine room, still keeps a close eye on Zimbabwean talent. Speaking in a recent interview, the veteran was asked who from his homeland he would bring to Chiefs if he had the power. Without hesitation, Katsande named Marshall Munetsi, the dynamic midfielder currently playing for Stade de Reims in France’s Ligue 1.
“If I could bring one Zimbabwean player to Kaizer Chiefs, it would definitely be Marshall Munetsi,” Katsande said. “He’s strong, intelligent, and has the kind of presence that Chiefs need in midfield. But of course, he’s playing at a very high level in Europe right now.”
Munetsi, 28, has established himself as one of Zimbabwe’s top exports, earning plaudits for his consistent performances in France. His ability to defend, distribute, and get forward with purpose makes him a complete box-to-box midfielder — a profile that Chiefs have long sought to bolster their squad.
While a move back to Africa seems unlikely for Munetsi at this stage of his career, Katsande’s comments highlight the level of ambition and quality he believes Chiefs should be targeting. It also points to the strong pipeline of talent that Zimbabwe continues to produce.
With Chiefs undergoing a rebuild under coach Nasreddine Nabi, the idea of signing players with Munetsi’s calibre — even if out of reach — speaks to the aspirations many former players and fans have for a club desperate to reclaim its dominance in South African football.
