The agent of former Mamelodi Sundowns star Rivaldo Coetzee has shown a lot of class following his client’s recent departure from the reigning Betway Premiership champions. Mike Makaab opened up about how he views Coetzee’s exit from Sundowns.
Coetzee, 27, who impressively boasts seven Premier Soccer League titles with Sundowns, was not offered a contract renewal.
However, Makaab emphasized that there are no hard feelings. He praised Sundowns for the professionalism they showed, especially given the tough circumstances when Coetzee joined the club injured after a failed medical with Scottish side Glasgow Rangers.
Respect and Gratitude
When speaking to Soccer Laduma, Makaab said,
“I’m not surprised by the decision. Sundowns have a large squad, and we can only be thankful for the way they handled Rivaldo’s situation. After his deal with Glasgow Celtic fell through due to injury, Sundowns invested time and effort in his recovery, even though it took nearly a full season.”
He continued,
“They helped get him back to top shape, and he returned to playing football again. The professionalism they showed throughout was commendable.”
Makaab also revealed that Coetzee is fully fit now and ready for new opportunities. He clarified that the injury was caused by a tackle, not a relapse of an old problem.
“It was unfortunate timing, just as he was starting to perform well again. We’re currently exploring new options for him.”
Looking back, Makaab said,
“Rivaldo had a fantastic run with Sundowns, winning plenty of trophies, and now it’s time for him to start a new chapter in his career.”
