Orlando Pirates could be seeing one of their own switch sides in the Soweto Derby rivalry, as reports suggest Thabiso Monyane has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs.
Both Pirates and Chiefs are expected to revamp their squads ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League season. And while transfer speculation is heating up, a bold move from Monyane’s representatives could open the door for a controversial transfer.
According to SABC Sport, the defender’s camp has approached Chiefs, giving Amakhosi the chance to sign the 24-year-old. As of now, the club has not confirmed any official interest in Monyane.
Monyane, who has made 95 appearances for the Buccaneers, only featured five times last season, which has fueled talk that he could be on his way out. Chiefs, in search of depth and experience at the back, may see the former Bafana Bafana U23 international as a valuable addition—if they act on the offer.
Meanwhile, Paseka Mako, another player set to leave Pirates, is reportedly close to joining Chiefs. Sources claim that negotiations are at an advanced stage, bringing the seasoned left-back closer to Naturena.
If both deals go through, it would mark a rare double switch from Mayfair to Naturena—stirring up an already fierce rivalry and reshaping the defensive options for Cavin Johnson’s side heading into the new season.
