Kaizer Chiefs are on the hunt for fresh talent to bolster their defence, and one of South Africa’s brightest young prospects is firmly in their sights.

SuperSport United’s Ime Okon has emerged as a standout performer this season, earning praise for his commanding displays at centre-back. At just 21 years old, Okon has quickly cemented his place in the heart of Matsatsantsa’s defence—making him one of the most exciting defenders in the DStv Premiership right now.

With Rushwin Dortley still working his way back to full fitness after a lengthy injury layoff, Chiefs are already planning ahead. The club is eager to add youthful energy and long-term quality to their back line, and Okon fits that profile perfectly. His contract is reportedly set to expire in June 2025, and Amakhosi are believed to be monitoring his situation closely.

The Glamour Boys have also been linked with another SuperSport talent—23-year-old Aphiwe Baliti—adding more weight to the speculation that Naturena is seriously looking to refresh their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Are Chiefs Going All In for Appollis?

Meanwhile, there’s been a surprising twist in the club’s attacking plans. Although earlier reports pointed to interest in Bafana Bafana and Esperance winger Elias Mokwana, it now appears Chiefs are actually focused on securing Oswin Appollis.

An insider close to the negotiations revealed:

“If you’re asking about Appollis, then yes—Chiefs are definitely keen. Talks are already well advanced. The logistics are still being sorted out, but it’s not about Mokwana anymore.”

It’s clear that Kaizer Chiefs are working behind the scenes to strengthen their squad with a mix of proven local talent and youthful promise. Whether they land Okon or Appollis—or both—remains to be seen, but fans can expect some big moves in the coming weeks.
