The rivalry between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs has spilled into the transfer market once again — but this time, it’s the Buccaneers who have come out on top.
Both Soweto giants have been circling some of the same talents in recent transfer windows, including Oswin Appollis, Thabang Matuludi, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, and Fawaaz Basadien. However, Pirates have now reportedly won the race for Marumo Gallants midfielder Masindi Nemtajela, a player who was strongly linked with a move to Naturena just weeks ago.
According to Soccer Laduma, Pirates have secured Nemtajela’s signature on a three-year deal, beating Chiefs to the punch. The midfielder is expected to link up with the Buccaneers during their pre-season training camp, as preparations begin for the 2025/26 campaign.
“It’s practically a done deal,” a source close to the situation told the publication. “He’s signed until June 2028. The club’s scouts and recruitment team have been watching him for a while and feel he brings a unique quality that’s currently missing in the midfield.”
While Chiefs had hoped to bolster their midfield with Nemtajela, Pirates’ swift move has ensured they’ve added a promising talent who could grow into a key player over the next few seasons.
