Kaizer Chiefs are on a determined hunt to secure a top striker for coach Nasreddine Nabi ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Nabi is reportedly making moves to bring Fiston Mayele to Amakhosi, even traveling to Egypt in a bid to convince the striker to join the Soweto giants.
Chiefs’ interest in Mayele comes after Nabi’s earlier efforts to sign another key target, Feisal Salum from Azam FC. The Chiefs coach has a history with both players from their time together at Yanga SC and now hopes to reunite with them at Chiefs.
Interestingly, former Chiefs striker Kanga Nzenza, who played for the club in the 1990s, has been pushing the club to sign Mayele for some time. Nzenza revealed that he tried reaching out to Bobby Motaung multiple times after seeing Mayele’s impressive performances under Nabi at Yanga, but claims his messages were ignored by the busy club official.
Nzenza urged Chiefs to act quickly on Mayele, telling KickOff.com:
“I advised Chiefs to sign Mayele a while back. Just look at what he is doing now. I believe he can fit perfectly with Chiefs and has the talent to thrive here, even if he isn’t in his absolute best form right now. I struggled to get hold of Bobby Motaung to discuss him because he’s always busy. My plea was clear — Chiefs must bring him in. They heard me but didn’t take action.”
Originally from the DRC, Nzenza highlights Mayele’s strong reputation within a star-studded national team — something Chiefs badly need in their squad right now.
On Mayele’s qualities, Nzenza added:
“At the time, Mayele was playing for Yanga in Tanzania before Egyptian club Pyramids swooped in and signed him instead of Chiefs. He’s an outstanding player. Whenever he plays for the national team, he’s known as a game-changer off the bench. Just look at how Sundowns lost the CAF Champions League because of him.”
With such strong endorsements and Nabi’s personal interest, Chiefs could be gearing up to finally secure a player they’ve long admired.
