Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly making another push to sign Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, who’s just wrapped up a trophy-laden debut season with Tunisian powerhouse Espérance Sportive de Tunis. According to Tunisian media outlet Nessma Sport, Chiefs are waiting on a decision from Espérance’s top brass regarding the player’s future.

Mokwana Shines in Tunisia with Clean Sweep

The 25-year-old winger has had a season to remember, featuring in 34 matches and contributing six goals and four assists. While he didn’t play in the Tunisian Cup final, Mokwana was part of the squad that edged Stade Tunisien 1–0 to seal the treble, having already won the Ligue 1 title and Super Cup.

For Mokwana, this success marks a turning point in his career after years of trying to lift silverware in South Africa. His move to Tunisia has not only paid off in trophies but has also boosted his development and visibility on the continent.

Still a Bafana Bafana Regular

Thanks to his consistent form, Mokwana remains a fixture in the Bafana Bafana setup and is expected to play a key role in South Africa’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). His attacking spark and versatility make him one of the most promising wingers in the national team.

Amakhosi Eye a Long-Awaited Transfer

Kaizer Chiefs, who have tracked Mokwana for over a year, look set to make a fresh approach this off-season. A source close to the situation revealed, “Kaizer Chiefs were always his preferred destination before his move to Tunisia, but Sekhukhune refused to sell him to a local rival at the time.”

Now, with Esperance shifting focus to the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S., the timing may be ideal for Chiefs to swoop in.

If Chiefs succeed, Mokwana could link up with new signings and potentially spearhead a revitalized attacking force at Naturena under coach Nasreddine Nabi.
