Kaizer Chiefs management is working tirelessly behind the scenes to assemble a squad capable of challenging for silverware under new head coach Nasreddine Nabi. One of the team’s biggest problems last season was their inability to find the back of the net consistently — they only managed 25 goals in 28 league matches and finished a disappointing ninth.
To address this issue, Chiefs are reportedly targeting a proven forward — but there’s a twist. Their sights are set on a player currently on the books of arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
Chiefs Keen on Ighodaro
According to new reports, Amakhosi are seriously considering a move for Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro. The 22-year-old forward signed with Sundowns in 2021 but has yet to play a competitive game for the Pretoria giants. Instead, he’s been loaned out each season — most recently turning out for AmaZulu.
Despite never featuring for the Brazilians, Ighodaro has quietly built a solid reputation in the DStv Premiership, scoring 25 goals and adding four assists across just under 100 appearances during various loan spells.
An insider close to the situation revealed:
“Yes, it’s true. Kaizer Chiefs have enquired about Etiosa Ighodaro. Interestingly, it’s the same scouts who brought him to Sundowns from Nigeria who are now pushing for his move to Chiefs.”
Chiefs have reportedly shown interest in the striker before — particularly when he was impressing at Chippa United. However, Sundowns opted to loan him to SuperSport United instead at the time. Now, with Ighodaro’s future at Chloorkop uncertain, Chiefs are closely monitoring the situation and could swoop in if Sundowns make him available.
Could Ighodaro be the missing piece in Amakhosi’s frontline puzzle? Chiefs fans will be watching this one closely.
