Kaizer Chiefs are already taking steps to fix their goal-scoring struggles ahead of the next season.

Last season, the Chiefs’ forwards couldn’t find the back of the net consistently, with no player scoring more than five goals in the 2024/25 campaign.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi made it clear from the start that signing a reliable striker was a priority. Although he missed out in the first transfer window, he brought in two attackers in January—Tashreeq Morris and Glody Lilepo—to strengthen a frontline that included Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez, and young Wandile Duba.

While Morris didn’t deliver, Lilepo ended up as one of the club’s top scorers alongside Duba, each netting five goals. This only emphasized the urgent need for a senior striker to carry the scoring load. Several names have been linked to the Chiefs, including DR Congo international Fiston Mayele. The latest buzz is around Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Etiosa Ighodaro, according to Soccer-Laduma.

Ighodaro has caught Chiefs’ attention before. “It’s true, Chiefs have shown interest in Sundowns’ striker Etiosa Ighodaro. The scouts who brought him from Nigeria to Sundowns are the same ones making inquiries for Chiefs. They even tried to sign him earlier when he was on loan at Chippa United, but Sundowns sent him on loan to SuperSport United instead. Now, there’s talk that Sundowns might be open to letting him go, and Chiefs are ready to move,” a source revealed.

Could Ighodaro be the goal-scoring answer Chiefs desperately need?
