Another former Kaizer Chiefs player has joined the growing list of voices urging the club’s management and fanbase to be patient with current head coach Nasreddine Nabi, as he continues his mission to return the Soweto giants to their former glory.
The ex-Amakhosi star, who asked not to be named for fear of causing tensions with current club officials, spoke out passionately in a recent interview, stating that Nabi’s vision, tactical approach, and football philosophy need time to mature before they can yield the desired results.
“Kaizer Chiefs has always been a club with high expectations, and rightly so. But what the fans and the club need to understand is that success doesn’t come overnight, especially when you’re trying to rebuild from the ground up,” he said.
Nasreddine Nabi took over the reins at Chiefs amid much anticipation, following a string of underwhelming seasons that saw the club fail to lift major silverware. His appointment came with a promise of a new era — one built on modern tactics, player discipline, and a more dynamic style of play. However, the results have so far been inconsistent, sparking frustration among supporters and pressure from the media.
“Look at what he’s trying to do — he’s integrating young talent, he’s introduced structure, and you can see the improvement in how the team plays. What’s missing right now are results, but those will come,” added the former player.
He also pointed to the example of other successful coaches who were given time to build their legacies. “Even the greats had shaky starts. It’s easy to forget that. Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t win anything in his first few seasons at Manchester United. Pitso Mosimane faced criticism early on too, but look at what he achieved in the long run. Chiefs need to take a long-term view.”
Several former players and analysts have echoed similar sentiments in recent weeks, suggesting that constant changes in the technical team have disrupted continuity and progress. Nabi’s supporters believe he has the credentials, experience, and football intellect to transform the club — if given the support and time.
The former Chiefs star ended his remarks with a message to the fans: “Support doesn’t just mean celebrating when the team wins. It means standing by the team during the tough times, believing in the project, and trusting the process. Give Nabi the chance to finish what he’s started. Glory will return to Naturena — but only if we are patient.”
With the new season on the horizon and Chiefs preparing for a crucial transfer window, all eyes will be on how the club’s leadership navigates the pressure and whether they will back Nabi for the long haul.
